Peinzing Part 1 (Mix) on AmbientBlog

Peinzing Part 1 (Mix) on AmbientBlog

Runtime 1h 17m 19s

« “Peinzing” (pondering, muse-ing) (2003) is the name of the musical collage in which the difference between ‘music’ and ‘sound’ will not always be clear to the listener.  Over time, this has proven to be one of the most popular mix, especially with listeners that were not exactly familiar to ambient/electronic music.

There’s always the dynamic range between tension and release. The quiet piano sounds of John Cage and Arvo Pärt surround a broad spectrum of auditive landscapes. Inbetween, sometimes ‘ordinary’ pop-songs define the theme, like Paul Simon’s ‘Quiet’

I am heading for a time of quiet when my restlessness is past and I can lie down on my blanket and release my fists at last

This particular sequence (Arno Peeter’s collage of hectic life’s answering machines, Paul Simon’s detaching Zen-like song ‘Quiet’, and Jon Hassell seemingly rephrasing Paul Simon’s last vocal line) is one of my all time favourite sequences.  Because for me this part expresses what most mixes are about: Tension…Release…and then again: dark clouds gathering above strange landscapes… — AmbientBlog »

Errnois “Our Different Lines (feat. UVDBP)”

Errnois “Our Different Lines (feat. UVDBP)”

From the 51beats netlabel release, The Winter Season

« The first version of this album had been originally published by Errnois independently (www.myspace.com/errnois), and a very nice review by Mirco Salvadori is already available on Rockerilla N.351 (Nov 2009). 51beats was immediately happy to discuss and finalize with Marcello the realization of an extended version of the album…and here is “The Winter Season”, the first officially released work by Errnois, a full album with eleven tracks. Something here is very special and magically beautiful. Sounds are flying from above. Delicate atmospheres surrounding our deep and introspective side. Sometimes is the guitar, sometimes is a suspended atmosphere, hypnotic and obscure. Sometimes words are not necessary, basslines….voices are coming slowly… —51beats »

“The threads can always be traced back to some earlier tale, and to the tales that preceded that; though as the narrator’s voice recedes the connections will seem to grow more tenuous, for each age will want the tale told as if it were of its own making.”  —Clive Barker

Jasper TX “From Midnight To Sunlight”

Featured on Percussion Lab recently, a mix originally prepared for Headphone Commute.

« This time, it’s Dag Rozenqvist aka Jasper TX, mixing up his favourite tracks to keep you warm in the night… In the past few years, Rozenqvist has really stepped up in his production of dark ambient and acoustic drone pieces…  — Continue reading on Headphone Commute »

« This mix is called “From Midnight to Sunrise” and the central theme of this mix is the late night after party. When you’ve been out drinking and you land in some random couch in some apartment on the other side of town, drinking and smoking, everyone just sitting in their own hazy bubble. You listen to music and for the most part of it you’re just quiet with your own thoughts. There’s a beautiful calm to it and no one feels the need to talk anymore. And you just sit there until morning when the bubble eventually bursts and reality catches up on you. And all you can do then is go home and sleep a dreamless sleep.

I think these tracks all have the same kind of atmosphere to them. They’re quite restrained and there’s kind of a hypnotic quality to them. To me they really represent night time music. When listening to the mix I find myself being sucked into this comforting, soothing calm.

I spent a lot of time creating this mix, trying to decide in which order the tracks should come. I think it flows very well and I’m really pleased by how it turned out. Hope you’ll like it too. — Dag Rosenqvist, Gothenburg 2010 »

Any mix that drops a Bark Psychosis track in midway, you know is going to set you adrift… headphones recommended.

LG Shows How To Play Pirated Movies On TV

TorrentFreak

logo lgUsing pirated films as promotional material to sell consumer electronics is nothing new. The John Lewis store has used aXXo rips to sell iMacs in the past and Saturn, Europe’s largest retailer of consumer electronics, showed pirated films to sell Macbooks.

In these previous cases the pirated films were only on display in the stores, but the multinational electronics company LG takes it a step...

Able “The Circumpolar North”

Able “The Circumpolar North”

From the netlabel Rope Swing Cities release, Migrations

« It’s been a long hiatus for Rope Swing Cities while we dealt with life’s ever changing tapestry of challenges and decisions, but in 2010 we return with a year’s worth of releases from old friends and new faces alike. With this in mind, we would like to offer up for your perusal Migrations, the newest album from long time confederate, Able.

Over the last several years, Able has crisscrossed America, hitting both coasts and all points in between collecting impressions of the lives lived in our big, strange land. These memories have been given life in the form of the fifteen songs comprising this release.

Migrations is ambient music made for winter listening; dark, moody, longing, often confused, but ultimately hopeful. Able crafts stark, emotional soundscapes geared toward the searcher. Long, penetrating drones give way to crackles and pops; moments of urgent, driving percussion, the strum of guitar and the trample of feet. Other times, the drone conquers all else, melting away into cool meditation.

Listening music in its purest form, Migrations is a headphones on, eyes down listening experience. — Rope Swing Cities »

Recently I’ve been talking to Bryan about how we can differentiate between Unread and Read messages. Before we were simply using background colors to indicate old vs new. We felt this created too much of a responsibility to mark everything as read, and wanted something more subtle. We decided to leave the background color white no matter what, and simply change the way information is presented ...

Canadian Digital Music Sales Growth Beats The U.S. For the 4th Straight Year

Michael Geist Blog

Nielsen Soundscan has just released the Canadian music sales figures for 2009.  Notwithstanding the regular claims that the Canadian digital music market cannot develop without copyright reform, the Canadian market grew faster than the U.S. market for the fourth consecutive year.  As the chart below demonstrates, digital music sales have grown faster in Canada than in the U.S. in every year...

The pronoun shift
